This hotel style sambhar is a quick and tasty recipe that goes well with a bowl of rice, idlis or dosas. Try this for the days when you are craving for a good south indian meal.
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoon oil
- ½ tablespoon mustard seeds
- 6-7 curry leaves
- 1 tablespoon garlic cloves minced
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 2-3 dry red chillies
- 1 onion
- 1 tomato
- 2 potatoes
- 3 drumsticks
- Half bottle gourd
- 2 tablespoon Bhoj Masale sambhar masala
- 1 tablespoon red chilli powder
- ¼ tablespoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 cup water
- 1 cup toor dal
Instructions:
- Prepare the tempering: In a pan, add 2 tablespoon of oil and to it add ½ tablespoon mustard seeds, 6-7 curry leaves, 1 tablespoon garlic cloves minced, a pinch of asafoetida and 2-3 dry red chillies and saute well. To this add 1 sliced onion and cook until the onion becomes translucent.
- Cook the vegetables: Add 1 finely chopped tomato, 2 potatoes, 3 drumsticks and half bottle gourd to this and saute well.
- Cook the daal: Wash one cup toor daal thoroughly and cover and cook it for 3-4 whistles with a little bit of turmeric powder and salt.
- Finally, garnish it with some coriander leaves and serve it hot.
Tips:
- Soaking the daal before cooking it will help in the daal becoming soft and cooking faster.
