Gujrati Dudhi Dal Sabji Recipe

A classic Gujrati style bottle gourd recipe that is a must try. You can try this trick with your kids who refuses to eat anything healthy! 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle gourd
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 2 dry red chillies 
  • ½ tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1 cup soaked channa daal
  • ½ tablespoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon dhaniya powder
  • 2 tablespoon red chilli powder
  • 1-2 tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon  Bhoj Masale garam masala
  • 1 small block of jaggery
  • Coriander leaves
  • Salt as required
  • Water as required

Instructions:

    1. Cut the bottle gourd: Peel the skin of the bottle gourd and cut it into small pieces.
    2. Tempering: Heat some oil in a cooker and add a pinch of asafoetida, 2 dry red chillies and ½ tablespoon ginger garlic paste and saute well.
    3. Add the other masala: To this, add 1 cup soaked channa daal, ½ tablespoon salt, ½ tablespoon turmeric powder, 1 tablespoon dhaniya powder and 2 tablespoon red chilli powder and mix well. 
    4. Add the other ingredients: Add the cut bottle gourd pieces and give it a good mix. Once it is mixed properly, add 1-2 tomatoes cut and mix again. Adjust water as required.
  • Final flavouring: Add 1 tablespoon  Bhoj Masale garam masala  and one small block of jaggery and mix everything well together.
    1. Garnish the gravy with chopped coriander leaves.
    2. Tasty and flavourful dudhi dal sabji is ready to be savoured!

    Tips:

    • Adding jaggery will help in balancing out the flavours and reducing the bitterness from bottle gourd.
