A classic Gujrati style bottle gourd recipe that is a must try. You can try this trick with your kids who refuses to eat anything healthy!
Ingredients:
- 1 bottle gourd
- 1 tablespoon oil
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 2 dry red chillies
- ½ tablespoon ginger garlic paste
- 1 cup soaked channa daal
- ½ tablespoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon dhaniya powder
- 2 tablespoon red chilli powder
- 1-2 tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon Bhoj Masale garam masala
- 1 small block of jaggery
- Coriander leaves
- Salt as required
- Water as required
Instructions:
- Cut the bottle gourd: Peel the skin of the bottle gourd and cut it into small pieces.
- Tempering: Heat some oil in a cooker and add a pinch of asafoetida, 2 dry red chillies and ½ tablespoon ginger garlic paste and saute well.
- Add the other masala: To this, add 1 cup soaked channa daal, ½ tablespoon salt, ½ tablespoon turmeric powder, 1 tablespoon dhaniya powder and 2 tablespoon red chilli powder and mix well.
- Add the other ingredients: Add the cut bottle gourd pieces and give it a good mix. Once it is mixed properly, add 1-2 tomatoes cut and mix again. Adjust water as required.
- Garnish the gravy with chopped coriander leaves.
- Tasty and flavourful dudhi dal sabji is ready to be savoured!
Tips:
- Adding jaggery will help in balancing out the flavours and reducing the bitterness from bottle gourd.
