Dalma Recipe

Tasty and healthy dalma recipe which also happens to be a one pot recipe saving you all the time and trouble from washing so many utensils after a scrumptious meal!

 


Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chana dal
  • ½ cup toor dal
  • ½ cup masoor dal
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 onion
  • 2 green chillies
  • A spoon of ginger and garlic minced
  • 1-2 carrots
  • ¼ cup peas
  • 3-4 small pieces of drumstick
  • 1-2 potatoes
  • 3-4 beans
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • ½ tablespoon turmeric powder
  • ½ tablespoon coriander powder
  • Water as required

For tempering:

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • ½ tablespoon mustard seeds
  • 1 tablespoon jeera
  • ½ tablespoon asafoetida 
  • 1 dry red chilli

For seasoning:


Instructions:

    1. Soak the dal: Soak 1 cup chana dal, ½ cup toor dal and ½ cup masoor dal in water and let it soak for a few minutes.
    2. Prepare the base for daal: In a cooker, add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and saute 1 onion, 2 green chillies and a spoon of ginger and garlic minced well in it. Add 1-2 carrots, ¼ cup peas, 3-4 small pieces of drumstick, 1-2 potatoes and 3-4 beans or any vegetables of your choice and mix well.
  • Add the masala: Add ½ tablespoon turmeric powder, ½ tablespoon coriander powder and water as required and mix it well. Add the soaked daal in it and pressure cook until the daal is cooked well.
  • Prepare the tempering: Saute ½ tablespoon mustard seeds, 1 tablespoon jeera, ½ tablespoon asafoetida and 1 dry red chilli in a tablespoon of oil well.
  • Add the prepared tempering to the daal and to it add ½ tablespoon  Bhoj Masale garam masala  and coriander leaves as the final garnish.
    1. Serve it hot with some rice and enjoy!

    Tips:

    • Using coconut oil for cooking desi dishes will enhance the taste.
